With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. Zaman We've had this TV for about two weeks now, and so far it's been great. Coming from a 42-inch Toshiba 720p flat-panel LCD TV, we wanted to get something considerably larger and similar sized LCDs or plasmas were simply more than we wanted to pay. Overall, we've been extremely happy with it, but there are definitely a few minor issues and gripes, and one major issue. Picture Quality: As far as picture quality goes compared to our old TV, I would say that for 1080p content and gaming (on both PS3 and Xbox 360...haven't tried our Wii yet), this Mitsubishi is better than our LCD was. However, for 1080i content(Comcast HD cable), I feel that our old TV looked better. I think this is in the settings though. I calibrated both TVs using the Digital Video Essentials Blu-Ray...I simply think that I need to go back and try calibrating the cable input again (I'm hoping it's not an issue of the TV processing a 1080i signal poorly). A nice feature of this TV is that each input can have multiple, custom calibrations. One thing to keep in mind though is that you can set multiple, custom settings, but there is only one advanced calibration setting per input...of course most TVs don't even have advanced calibration (without going into professional service menus), so that's not really that big of a deal to me. Our Toshiba had multiple, preset settings with one custom per input, but not advanced settings. HD Cable aside, blu-ray movies and gaming does look amazing though... also, I haven't noticed any instances of ghosting or motion-blur so far. I do think you would have take the time to calibrate the picture, or at the very least change it from the default setting (Brilliant). Both the "Brilliant" and "Bright" presets are simply way too bright to give an accurate color representation...the "Natural" preset is pretty good though. Also, strangely enough, while I feel like this TV's picture quality for 1080i HD cable isn't as good as our old TV (yet), I think it does a better job with SD cable than our old TV did. Sound Quality: To be honest, I cannot tell you if the sound is good. On the day that we got it, I tried it to make sure the speakers worked...and then I immediately turned them off after. I have the TV hooked up to a home theater system. Internet Apps: I have the TV connected via Ethernet cable. I browsed through the internet apps and it seems to be a pretty cool feature with a lot of apps (a lot more than I was expecting), although its a feature that I probably won't need or use. The only internet app that I would regularly is Netflix, which this TV does not have. For those looking for on-demand movies, Vudu seems like it may be a good alternative to cable...the prices per movie are about the same as on-demand movies through cable (on Comcast anyway) and they may have some movies that on-demand cable does not. That being said though, I think in a market with Netflix streaming and Redbox, I feel that it is a little expensive per movie. Remote: The remote seems to have a nice layout, weight, and balance to it, but I honestly haven't used it much. I'm using a Logitech Harmony remote with the TV... which is also one of the big issues with the TV, which I'll address further below. 3D Picture: Unfortunately, Mitsubishi's promotion where they were giving away free 3D glasses ended about a week before we bought this TV...so for now, I have no way of testing 3D content on this TV, as I am certainly not ready to shell out for the current price of $130-150 per pair of 3D glasses right now. When (if) I get the 3D glasses, I'll update this review with my impressions of it. Size: The screen size is obviously pretty big, especially if you are coming from an LCD or a plasma, as the chances are this is bigger than what you have now. By this category, I thought it would be worth mentioning more about the

Davis I bought this kit to send HD video from my computer to my TV media device. It has adequate bandwidth and worked out of the box, but I do not get a strong signal from the main floor to the basement of my house, a distance of about 25 feet. There are a couple of walls as well as the floor, and the basement ceiling has metal duct work and pipes above the plasterboard, so I am probably lucky to penetrate all that. I used a laptop to indicate wireless signal strength, and spent a couple of hours orienting each device for the best signal. Now I get a level that varies from 50% to 70%, and that works reliably for HD at 720p. I have not been able to send 1080i over the link without momentary stops and starts in the audio and video; however the link never breaks connection and never needs resetting. It seems to just limit the bandwidth as the signal strength goes lower. I bought a third WNHDE 111 to connect to another computer, and than link has never been interrupted since I installed it over a month ago. It has always worked well. I had previously used a Linksys G router that was interrupted once or twice a day, and it had to be reinstated manually using the "repair" function in the Windows wireless software. It was my wife's computer in the kitchen, so I had to fix it! I still have the wireless G system up, and it works well around the house with a third computer, a laptop, but it never gave a reliable signal for my wife's computer in the kitchen; and it would not carry the HD video for the TV. I also use that old G router to connect the ethernet from my main computer to the WNHDE 111. I recommend this device if you don't have too many walls and floors to penetrate. I am a retired electronics engineer, and I assure everyone that the higher the frequency, the poorer the penetration, but the more bandwidth and the more freedom from interference. Update: After 7 months, I have better results. With some tweaking of the settings (set the Channel Width to 20 MHz, turn off the "Broadcast SSID", and lower Beacon Period to 50 msec) I can now stream 25 Mbps HD video through all the walls. I think the main problem was that the auto 20/40 Channel Width was trying to run at 40 and was not successful, sometimes switching between 20 and 40. When I reduced the channel width, I got an increase in signal strength. I can now stream 1080i HD for hours without any problem. Jim 22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. FAST... but know what you're buying By David Whittle Although this is marketed as an "HD/Gaming" wireless kit, it's important to know what this really is and how to use it. MOST IMPORTANT: This kit isn't a router -- you cannot create a Wireless N network with it alone. It is designed to add to your existing network... often a wireless 2.4 GHz network (commonly 802.11 b/g). This will provide high-speed "802.11n" at 5 GHz so it doesn't interfere with a current b/g network. Any wireless b/g devices (Xbox wireless adapter, PS3 internal wireless, b/g laptops, b/g network cards, etc.) currently used on the network will be unaffected by this addition. HOW THIS WORKS: The kit features two identical units -- one unit will plug into your existing network's router via Ethernet as an "access point", and the other unit will plug into the Ethernet device(s) (Xbox, PS3, computer, etc.) as a "bridge". Once the two units sync, it will behave as if the device(s) plugged into the bridge is hardwired to the network router. Each unit has two Ethernet ports... if you want to plug a 3rd (or more) devices in to the "bridge", you will need to add a switch like NETGEAR FS105 ProSafe 5-Port 10/100 Desktop Switch. TECH NOTE: The Ethernet ports on these devices are NOT Gigabit ports, so even though the wireless N signal can achieve 300 Mbit/s, the fastest speed you will achieve on these devices is 100 Mbit/s. From the ManufacturerManufacturer's Description (March 19, 2009)The Panasonic DMP-BD80 Blu-ray Disc Player combines high quality images with enhanced networking functions. In continuing its commitment to producing products that stress ease of use, Panasonic has equipped the 2009 line of Blu-ray Disc players with VIERA Link, allowing the consumer to operate the audio/video components via HDMI with one remote. And in keeping with Panasonic's pledge to reduce the planet's carbon footprint, the new Blu-ray players have been designed to reduce power consumption. BD Live and BonusView so you can connect directly to the Internet to access bonus features, games and movie studio extras. SD memory card and USB slot so you can enjoy precious memories in HD Click to enlarge. Experience Movies Like Never Before The DMP-BD80 employs the PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. Developed in collaboration with Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, this high image processing technology reproduces clear, vivid colors that are faithful to the original film. Panasonic recognizes that audio is important to the overall entertainment experience, so this Blu-ray Disc player features a high definition audio decoder (Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio Essential) to take advantage of the exceptionally high quality 7.1 channel surround sound now integrated in Blu-ray Discs. In order to produce the ultimate picture quality, Panasonic’s DMP-BD80 Blu-ray players employs high precision 4:4:4 signal technology, which working in tandem with PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the horizontal direction, to compliment vertical direction processing. P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD) is another technology that contributes to the superior picture quality of the Blu-ray players. P4HD processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimal processing to every pixel. Panasonic’s Blu-ray players further utilize 16-level motion detection to categorize the image motion of each pixel into one of 16 levels; diagonal processing to detect diagonals and correct the pixels accordingly; 1080p up-conversion to up-convert content recorded in the 480i/p or 720p format to 1080p. The Blu-ray players also provide 1080/24p output, thereby reproducing cinema images from a Blu-ray Disc and DVD in their original 24p form with no need for conversion. This allows the user to enjoy cinema images in the same format used in cinema with a 1080/24p compatible TV. Complementing the HD audio codecs this Blu-ray player features 96kHz surround re-master, a function that enhances the sound quality of CDs and other sources, and even improves the quality of the multi-channel audio data on Blu-ray Discs and DVDs. The DMP-BD80 further enhances the audio experience with 7.1 channel analog out to produce true 7.1 surround sound, thereby affording the consumer a home theater environment that rivals the movie theater. The BD80 also includes a playback information window that can be used to display detailed image information while a movie is playing. ENERGY STAR Rated In order to obtain a reduction in power consumption the Panasonic DMP-BD80 uses Auto Power Stand-By, a function that automatically turns off the player when you return to TV operation using the VIERA Link menu. In addition, the Stand-by Power Save automatically turns off the player’s Quick Start function. When VIERA is turned on, Quick Start also turns on. In addition, the development of the UniPhier single chip LSI makes it possible to pack an entire video signal processing circuit onto a single chip. This helps lower power consumption, reduces the number of parts needed and allows for a more compact design. Nothing But Blu Skies By Chris Boylan With the BD80, Panasonic has taken its popular BD55, with its excellent picture and sound quality, and added the ability to access online content via the new VIERA Cast feature. Currently VIERA Cast is limited to YouTube, Picasa online photo sharing, stocks and weather via "widgets" but Amazon's on-demand movie service will be available on the BD80 in May. Other internet-based content can be added by Panasonic over time, based on user demand (without the need for a hardware upgrade). Overall, the BD80 works well as a multi-media player - they added a USB jack on the front for viewing photos, Divx and Xvid videos and listening to MP3 files. This is in addition to the SD card slot (and BTW, an SD card is still required for BD-Live). It would have been nice if the player supported MKV videos, WMV, WMA and M4P files, but I guess we can't have everything. Viewing YouTube is pretty straightforward - you can even log in to view your favorites - and it's nice to be able to do that without a PC connected to your TV. For Blu-ray and DVD playback, the unit performs extremely well. It isn't the absolute best upconverting DVD player available, but it does a good job wringing detail out of standard def content. And it really shines as a Blu-ray Disc player with top-notch video and audio performance. The player decodes all of the latest surround sound codecs (Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, etc.) to multi-channel PCM and to multi-channel analog outputs (5.1 or 7.1-channel) for compatibility with older receivers and surround processors that lack the latest HDMI audio support. If you do have a newer receiver with HDMI audio support, then you can set the player to bitstream these soundtracks to your receiver for decoding. The player also offers standard coax and fiber optic digital outputs though these do not support the new codecs. In addition to VIERA Cast and the USB port, Panasonic adds a new "High Clarity Audio" feature which allows you to turn off analog video processing if you're using HDMI for your video output (improving sound quality) as well as a new "3D NR" noise reduction feature for cleaning up noisy Blu-ray and DVD transfers. It's too bad Panasonic could not improve the load times for Blu-ray and DVDs. As it is, they're pretty much identical to the BD35 and BD55. But at least they did provide a "Quick Start" mode which allows the player to power on/boot up quicker than its predecessors. Even still, the player is a bit slower to load discs than the latest offerings from LG and Samsung. For those who don't need the multi-channel analog outputs or Divx support, the less expensive DMP-BD60 may be a better choice as it offers the same audio and video processing as well as the same VIERA Cast feature. Overall, the BD80 is a solid performer. I would have liked Panasonic to include an SD card in the box for BD-Live access (as well as an HDMI cable, instead of those silly composite video/analog audio cables), and it would have been nice to have a Wi-Fi option, instead of requiring a hard-wired Ethernet cable for internet access, but Panasonic is not the only vendor who omits these things. While the online content offerings are currently a bit light and the operational speeds are only average, the excellent audio and video performance and flexible media playback options make this a strong contender in the 2009 Blu-ray model line up. By JJ Updated 11/29/09 Many of these Panasonic players including mine suffer from random freezes that last between 5-6 seconds and then resume during blu-ray movie playback. So far Pansonic has NOT be able to come up with a fix for this. If you don't mind this possible problem the rest of my review still stands. Unfortunately for me I

Exceptional player By John I have been holding out on purchasing a blue ray until after the format war was settled between blue ray and the Toshiba HD DVD. Now that I have it, I'm not sure what I did without one! This thing is awesome! So you probably realize that the blue ray format is great before you read this... So, let me tell you why I picked this unit. 1. start up. This until starts up very quickly. In fact I couldn't believe how long it took other brands to boot. Boot time is not a problem with this one. 2. Upconverting. I took a regular Lord of the Rings DVD into the local retailer and tested the upconversions. It is my opinion that this Pioneer had the best upconversion in the store. It's not a cheap player, but if you have a lot of regular DVD's, you'll appreciate paying the extra bucks to be able to watch instead of replacing your entire collection. What I found though is that newer DVD releases still convert and look better than older releases. I watched one of my oldest DVD's last night, Pulp Fiction, and I must admit that it didn't look as good on this setup as it did on my old set up. For reference, I have this player hooked up to a Pioneer KURO PRO-111FD. It's a great combination. 12 of 13 people found the following review helpful. If I could give 6 stars i would By Shmeg McGee AMAZING picture quality! fast load times and no lag. The MAIN reason I love this player is the firmware updates are MAC COMPATIBLE! I had to throw out my Sony because their firmware updates were only PC. That made it useless after about three months (wouldn't play ANY Blue Rays) Not to mention the fact that I could cook dinner before the damn thing powered up and started playing. The Pioneer is worth every penny. You will not regret this purchase. 7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Best bluray player you can get for Video/Audio quality! By Alex B I posted this review for Oppo, which I repeat here as I first bought Oppo but then after these tests moved to this Elite and I can't be happier! Ok, so I got carried away like all others with Oppo features, and fan-boy reviews... ordered one and started using it. Since I am a bit of a Hifi guy, I asked my buddy to bring his blu-ray to do a back to back comparison to a Pioneer Elite BDP-05, connected to an Elite Plasma Kurp 9G, and here's what we found: Speed: Oppo is fast! In most cases it was 25% or more faster than Pioneer. So, Oppo: +1 Blu-ray Video: Pioneer Bluray picture quality was MUCH BETTER with similar setting at 1080P! I was quite disappointed to see that! Pio +1 DVD: Oppo looked a bit better in DVD upscaling at 1080p, however the best upscaling was the Plasma TV at 480i! So, if you got a Pioneer Elite Plasma both are equal, if not Opp +2. Audio: Pioneer analog out is just GREAT! Much more clarity and definition as it has great DAC. Pio: +2 Build Quality: Pioneer BY A MILE, I mean it looks, feels, and operates as a more expensive unit. Oppo just looks and feels cheap and doesn't look the price it costs! Pio +3 Remote/User Interface: Again Pioneer wins hands down! Pio +4 Total Score: Pio +4 - Opp +2 So, overall, I was quite disappointed in Oppo (maybe expected too much) at $500, returned it and bought the BDP-05FD on sale for the same price. If you care ONLY for speed of disk loading and operation, and do not have a higher end LCD/Plasmas for upscaling get Oppo, if you care about bluray video quality/audio quality/build quality, then get the Pioneer. Review from Home Theater Magazine Review from HomeTheaterMag.com: Oppo BDP-83SE With all of the resources that are available to the Blu-ray Disc Association's major manufacturers, it's remarkable that the first company to cure the ills of standalone Blu-ray players was Oppo Digital with its $499 BDP-83 (HT, September 2009). Upon that player's release, many enthusiasts were using the PlayStation 3 for its speed and reliability. Standalone players were too slow and prone to disc incompatibility issues. They also had a hodgepodge of hardware profiles and decoding and interactivity features that bewildered consumers. When Oppo's BDP-83 came along, it did everything that a Blu-ray player should do, and it did it right and fast. In short, it was a next-gen Blu-ray player that acted like one. That player earned Home Theater's Top Pick of the Year in Source Components and overall Product of the Year for 2009 (HT, November 2009). Plus, it earned a check from me to Oppo. The BDP-83 I bought last year as a reference has been bulletproof during the time I've owned it. Compatibility issues have been few and far between. But when they've come up, Oppo has acted swiftly with hassle-free firmware updates from the Internet. It has been so bulletproof that it's difficult to imagine changing it out or upgrading it. I bought a Samsung BD-UP5000 when they were first released since it played both HD DVD and Blu-Ray discs. Poor support, lack-luster performance and the end of HD DVDs left me wanting something "better". I found what I was looking for in the Oppo BDP-83. Oppo is a customer-driven company and conducted an extended beta test to uncover bugs. The beta testers had to accept the state of the player before it could be released! I've emailed Oppo support a few times and they are prompt to respond with real answers not just an automated or canned response - usually the same day. I can't say enough good things about the company. The '83 is rock solid. It has not frozen or even hiccuped once. It plays all the discs I've put in. (The 5000 had trouble with some and often required the discs to be fingerprint free and occationally locked up requiring restart to even eject a disc.) To me, one of the important features of a disc player is SD DVD upscaling. Standard definition can look pretty bad on a HDTV. Even the networks and cable channels often do a marginal job up-converting. My 5000 had a very good upconverter (Reon) but the '83 is better - something you'd expect from a company that focused on SD DVD players long after the introduction of HD DVD and Blu-Ray. Sometimes I forget I'm watching SD material! Most high def players are sluggish, acting more like underpowered computers than audio/video gear. Boot and disc load times often exceed 30 seconds. Not the '83 - it's responds more like a DVD player than a computer. The tray opens in under 3 seconds from pressing the eject button (with power off) and playback begins in under 10 seconds (for SD DVD). For Blu-Ray, play start does depend on what enhancements the content provider loads before playback can begin (custom menus, etc.). (Remember Blu-Ray discs allow the content provider lots of control over the player and playback of the content.) The '83 decodes all advanced audio formats: Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD Master Audio, etc. So the lossless audio is available via 7.1 analog outs as well as PCM over HDMI. You don't need an A/V receiver that includes decoders for these formats - the player does the work. Speaker management provided by the '83 makes the 7.1 analog outputs usable, but with some limitations: The bass management frequency is fixed at 80 Hz, and there are limitations to speaker distance delays. The user manual explains things so that the user/installer can make important setup and usage decisions. For example, there is a section that explains the various output resolutions and which is best for various scenarios; and another that helps choose the correct "zoom" for various disc and TV aspect combinations. So often, modern computer-based A/V gear is released without a complete set of features with the promise of adding them later. Again the '83 was released fully featured so there's little to wait for. But Oppo realizes there will be bugs to fix and new features to add as well as new disc behavior to support. They've provided THREE separate ways to upgrade firmware: via a network connection, via CD/DVD or USB memory. I use a universal remote to control all my A/V gear and thanks to a document provided by Oppo, I was able to program my remote prior to receiving the unit. Most of the commands use the same data as their previous players so I was able to start with the configuration for an older mode. Oppo provided an Excel file with all the control codes in a format that can be imported into Universal Remote Control and Pronto remotes (maybe others). I've never seen this level of support from any other consumer electronics company and this material existed BEFORE product release. Where documentation was lacking, customer support provided the missing information. There's been one (public beta) firmware update and a user

Pioneer BDP-330 1080p Streaming Blu-ray Disc Player (Black)

Without question, the greatest success of all Pioneer's players is the ability to recreate film as the director intended. And as movies are the combined work of many people, from cinematographers and set designers to Foley and makeup artists, every detail is taken into consideration in order to help you get closer to the ultimate cinematic experience. In the past, film displayed on television required stretching 24 frames-per-second to match the 30 frames-per-second of television. More often than not, this would result in annoying motion judder and unnatural on-screen images. With True 24fps at up to 1080p resolution, you see only what the director intended as all film sources are displayed at their actual speed. The BDP-330 provides up to 1920 x 1080p resolution for unrivaled picture quality. And with True 24fps, you’ll see your movies as the director intended. The BDP-330 offers simultaneous HDMI & Component Video Output: Enjoy High Definition Video from both the HDMI and Component Video connections. (Component Video limited to 1080i Resolution.)The BDP-330 also allows online Streaming Content: Enjoy online content from YouTube and read RSS Feeds when connected to the internet. Additional services available soon. This amazing Pioneer product allows for iPhone/iPod Touch Remote Control: Using our free iControlAV application (available for download from the Apple App StoreSM) users can control most major functions of the BDP-330 with their iPhone/iPod Touch.

HDMI Precision Quartz Lock System (PQLS) Jitterless Transmission (Bitstream): By HDMI connection with a compatible Pioneer A/V receiver, A/V sources such as Blu-ray Discs and DVDs, as well as CD music are precisely reproduced with minimum jitter.

The BDP-330 has the capability to show customers every detail of a film, allowing for the best possible viewing experience. Televisions in the past have displayed images at 30 frames-per-second, while films were created at 24 frames-per-second, causing a distorted playback. This product addresses that issue, running at True 24 frames per second at up to 1080p resolution. Though its picture quality is unrivaled in the industry, the BDP-330’s features are what truly separate it from products of comparable prices. The player accepts online streaming content, allowing YouTube, Netflix, and RSS feeds to be viewed via the internet. In addition, this product allows for iPhone/iPod touch remote control, using a free application that is available for download from the Apple® App Store. The BDP-330 serves as another example why Pioneer is at the forefront of Blu-ray technology and an industry leader in picture quality. Highest Quality Video Playback Blu-ray The Pioneer BDP-330 offers customers the best possible video playback quality, and with a full 1920 x 1080p resolution, viewing is unrivaled in the industry. In addition, the True 24 frames-per-second film display eliminates the jittering and distortion caused by many televisions and media players. This product’s deep color capability gives a level of color accuracy that has been previously unattainable in media display technology, expanding display colors into the billions and taking precision beyond what the human eye can see. Pioneer has emerged at the top of the industry, giving customers a viewing experience unlike anything seen before. Inputs and Outputs Upscaling DVDs This Blu-ray player is also compatible with DVDs and CDs. Because of its high quality performance, the DVD viewing experience is enhanced on this player, allowing customers to view their non-Blue-ray video collection at near HD quality. CDs are also playable on this machine, precisely presented with minimal jitter. Enhanced Audio Technology The sound quality from this Blu-ray player is incredible, delivering a crisp effect that immerses the viewer into the film. The audio decoding in the BDP-330 is unmatched, delivering sound that can be interpreted by any speaker system and is compatible with all advanced formats such as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTSHD High Resolution, and DTS-HD Master Audio. Advanced Connectivity Streaming from Content Sites Connecting your Blu-ray player to the internet has never been so easy. With an Ethernet cable port and the optional wireless dongle, access to video from sites like YouTube expands viewing opportunities for customers. The BDP330 now offers Netflix compatibility, allowing you to view movies from the internet on your Blu-ray player. Wireless Ready The BDP-330 can connect easily to your home wireless network with the purchase of the AS-WL 100 Wireless Adapter (sold separately). This adapter is 802.11/n compatible and can support WPA, WPA2, AES, and TKIP encryption. It features an on-screen setup, allowing for quick configuration on any network. Unfortunately, a thinly disguised Sharp BD-HP70U By WDH UPDATE: Netflix was added via firmware on roughly 8/14 The news of Pioneer's departure from the plasma market shook the AV community a little over two years ago. Questions abound as to what the future would hold for Pioneer in a post Kuro world. Fans of their Blu-ray players - begun in earnest with the 51FD/05FD - wondered if a joint venture with Sharp would lead to a dilution of the high quality A/V performance at a very reasonable price point. The release of the budget-priced Pioneer BDP-120 was to some a harbinger of this venture manifesting itself in what appeared to an amateur eye as a largely re-badged Sharp player veiled beneath a Pioneer chassis. Its performance was nowhere near its 320 and 23FD brethren and its price point reflected such. Emerging news of the 320's replacement came from European sources boasting Youtube streaming, which hinted the promise that US customers might get Netflix streaming or even some of the other instantly streamed video sources. The BDP-330 was largely unannounced until I found one in a Best Buy half-an-hour's drive from my house. Upon lifting the all-white box, I noticed immediately that it was light, which caused me to prolong any disappointment until I got an opportunity to put it through its paces. I was a bit surprised the box made no mention of Youtube or any streaming services. Upon unboxing the player, I was a bit surprised at how small and shallow its profile really was. It makes the 320 look downright large. The biggest immediate disappointment was the rear output panel, which was identical to the European press photos completely devoid of multichannel analogue outputs. The Burr-Brown DAC-equipped MCH analogue outputs were one of the 320's strongest selling points. The player was made in April of 2010 in China; please note this is a departure from the Malaysian-built 320 and later 51s. The 120 was also made in Sharp and has a number of rear panel similarities including the power cord input's design. The player also shares the exact same model number remote as the 120 - VXX3351, which appears nearly identical to the 320, but including some strangely labeled buttons (page +/- and keylock) missing the video adjust button (this all but eliminated the hope that this might be a "real" Pioneer for me). Upon firing up the player, I was greeted by the familiar Pioneer menu, but a very different setup menu that was very similar to the 120 best I can remember. Here's where the disappointment turns real: there is no Netflix; only Youtube and RSS. Gone is the slicky black background menu and appeared is the simple text and icon menu I remember from Sharp players. No choice for colorspace or high-speed HDMI...Just resolution. For folks who have been accustomed (spoiled) by the amount of tweaking possible with the 320/23/51/05, this is a huge disappointment. All video adjustments options of the 320/23 are GONE. No Preset modes like Pioneer PDP or Projector. Once again, just resolution. This player is certainly not of the linneage of the current 320 or 51 with their extensive picture adjustment menus and presets. From this standpoint, the 330 is very disappointing. In respects of load times, the quick start feature added very little discernable benefit to load times, that were very pokey. In fact, the current 320 was faster in actual load times in all the discs I tested than the 330. Other than the 2 second power off eject time, the Pioneer BDP-330's load times were embarrasingly so for a 2010 player whose peer group can load the same discs in a third of the time. Brown I recently purchased a Sony Bravia HDTV and a Panasonic Blu-Ray player. Both came with Ethernet ports but not wireless ones. I have a wireless-N network, so I found that I needed a wireless Ethernet bridge for these two new devices. They sell two bridges at Best Buy (D-link, Linksys), but they get poor reviews, cost $100, and only have a single Ethernet port each (requiring that I buy two bridges or one bridge and a hub). Many of the bridges on Amazon also have sketchy reviews. However, I saw some Buffalo devices that looked potentially interesting, with multiple ports and positive reviews on some models. So, I gave this one a shot since it comes directly from Amazon (instead of a 3rd party seller) and looks similar to other Buffalo devices that are reviewed positively. These reviews of other models warned of possible difficulties (e.g., poor documentation, issues with Windows Vista, issues connecting to non-Buffalo wireless routers that are using encryption) but claimed these difficulties could be surmounted. I got the bridge this evening and it was simple and easy to install on my network. I simply connected it directly to my PC via its Ethernet port, ran the setup disk, fed the setup program the information about my network and its encryption, and that's it. I put the bridge in my den, connected it to my TV, and I was immediately able to watch Internet-only HDTV content on my Sony Bravia (e.g., Amazon video). The whole thing took about 15 minutes from opening the box, configuring it via my PC, and popping it on my TV. Hard to see how this could be better, so I'm giving this 5 stars for now to alert folks to the utility of this product, but if I run into problems later I'll update this review. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Works as advertised By John Lessnau Works perfectly at my home theater for my components that need a direct Ethernet cable (xbox, 2 dvrs and the TV). It took careful reading of instructions to set it up to work with my Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router WNDR3700 router but once set up I have yet to have any issues such as loss of connectivity or slowdowns. I can stream Blu Ray quality files from my upstairs computer and my son's xbox connection is faster then ever for online gaming. If you need a wireless N bridge, I don't think you can go wrong with a Buffalo. 14 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Setting up with Mac under Tiger 10.4.11 By Craig T. Morita This unit works well for streaming Netflix Instant on videos to my Sony BDP-N460 Blu-ray Disc Player for playback on my Sony Bravia8 XBR TV. It is the only bridge that I found that has four plugs in the back allowing both the TV, DVD to plug in (with space to plug in an Apple TV or Apple MiniMac in the future). There is no documentation about how to use this unit with Macs. Here is a guide to my setup: To setup with Mac Tiger Os 10.4.11 or Leopard 10.5.x and a first generation Time Capsule unit broadcasting a 802.11n signal. Note that none of the supplied software will work on a Mac so web based setup is necessary for Macs. However, you can access the manual on the CD. Also the AOSS setup method will not work with Mac Airport Base stations. The Mac documentation is essentially non-existent.
